ABB spots a window of opportunity

Ever since the early 1980's ABB has been an acknowledged forerunner when it comes to organisational and management issues. As part of their new Leadership Challenge Programme (LCP), ABB has now embarked on a journey to form a strong organisational culture - a culture characterised by communication, relations and openness. The instrument ABB has chosen in order to facilitate this change is the Teleometrics instrument "Personnel Relations Survey", based on Ingham & Lufts classic communication model "the Johari window". We are now seeing a widespread use of the instrument in Sweden, Norway, Finland and Switzerland and we hope to see a continuous demand from other national ABB Human Resource departments during 2006.

The Personnel Relations Survey (PRS), which is a self-survey for managers, continues to be our most popular feedback instrument. The PRS is an easy-to-complete survey that helps managers assess how well they communicate with employees, colleagues and supervisors. This feedback instrument evaluates current strengths and weaknesses of one’s interpersonal style. Normative data enables the manager to compare their scores against 13,373 other managers.

The PRS can also be complemented with the co-worker feedback instrument "Management RElations Survey (MRS). How we communicate with others and how they perceive us is of vital importance to effective management. Based on the same Johari Window, the MRS enables the receiver to “hear” those precise observations from others which often lead to vastly improved communication and consequently, better working relationships. Normative data conversion tables based on N = 28,507. We recommend a minimum of 3 feedback instruments for every self-survey to maximize effectiveness.
